THE WALL OF WINNIPEG AND ME by Mariana Zapata
“Home is where you are. I would go anywhere for you if you wanted me there.”
This is the first time for me to read a book about sports romance so I honestly don't know what to expect but surprisingly, I love this book. No wonder a lot of people are talking about this and the praises it got really made me curious to continue reading it because I was so close to DNF-ing it.
SYNOPSIS
Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. She shouldn't feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.
But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked.
For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn't find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He's asking for the unthinkable.
What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?
To be honest, I did not grasp the feel of this book until I was 40% ish on the book. I almost did not finish this because the narrative was soooooo loooooong it irritated me. Like for instance, when Aiden asked Van a simple question, Van will narrate a lot of things it takes pages for me to find Van's actual answer to the question. Lol. So I just skipped those parts because it was just unnecessary. And this book is really long but it only talked about the marriage of Aiden and Van and actually Vanessa's training in joining the marathon. But nevertheless, it was a fast and easy read for me.
This is so slowburn! The sexual tension between Aiden and Van is so funny. This is why I really prefer reading books with POVs of the hero and heroine instead of just the one character. I wanna know what goes on in the head of the other too. Aiden is also really difficult to read because he's mostly quiet but he does show he care for Van in his own little way like when he came to her convention out of blue, and when he gave her a ring because he did not give her one during their wedding. It was so adorable and cute.
This the first book of Mariana that I read so I'm glad it did not disappoint and I am so excited to read Zac's story! His friendship with Van is so cute they're like brothers and sisters. This may be a super slowburn book but you'll want to read it time and time without being bored. I definitely recommend this!
