THE VILLAIN (Boston Belles #2) by L.J. Shen

“But what are villains, my dear wife, if not misunderstood heroes?”

I was so excited to read but... disappointment, disappointment!

SYNOPSIS

Cruel. Coldblooded. Hades in a Brioni suit.
Cillian Fitzpatrick has been dubbed every wicked thing on planet earth.
To the media, he is The Villain.
To me, he is the man who (reluctantly) saved my life.
Now I need him to do me another, small solid.
Bail me out of the mess my husband got me into.
What’s a hundred grand to one of the wealthiest men in America, anyway?
Only Cillian doesn’t hand out free favors.
The price for the money, it turns out, is my freedom.
Now I’m the eldest Fitzpatrick brother’s little toy.
To play, to mold, to break.
Too bad Cillian forgot one, tiny detail.
Persephone wasn’t only the goddess of spring; she was also the queen of death.
He thinks I’ll buckle under the weight of his mind games.
He is about to find out the most lethal poison is also the sweetest.

I thought I was gonna enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed the other books of L.J. Shen but.. this did not work for me. huhuhu. Out of all the heroes of Shen from her other series, Cillian is my least favorite. I don't know why people keep on comparing him and Vicious when he's not even on Vic's league. I mean, yeah they bring their assholery game to the highest level and beyond but I don't think Cillian has that quality that can be compared to Vicious. The same with the heroines. I thought Melody will remain at the bottom of my least favorite heroine but gaaahhh!!! Persephone is just a thousand times annoying and pathetic! I really don't see the resemblance of Vicious and this book. At least Emilia is not pathetic and doesn't show how obsessed she is to Vicious unlike Persy who constantly pushes herself to Cillian when he always push her away. The things that she does just to get Cillian's attention is just so annoying I wanna shake her so she wakes up. Lol.

To be honest, I have skipped  pages more than I read the whole book because I just can't stand the things that happened here. I was just excited to read the scenes of Hunter and Sailor instead of that of Persy and Kill. I just stopped caring about the story and what'll happen next. I don't wanna go back to the experience of me reading this I just wanna completely forget this book in my mind and brain. It was sheer torture!

Just to be safe, I'll lower my expectation on The Monster which will be lead by Sam and Aisling if I'm not mistaken, because from the tidbits that was shown in this book, Sam is just as asshole as Cillian and I honestly don't know what to expect from him and this book. More Sailor and Hunter I hope.

Rating: ⭐ (I originally gave this 2 stars in goodreads but I think I was just being generous that time since I rated it the moment I finish reading this.)
