PRETTY RECKLESS (All Saints High #1) by L.J. Shen
“I wish I could rewrite you out of my life
But all your pages are highlighted
Dog-eared and thumbed to death
I can no longer read you
But you are still my favorite poem”
SYNOPSIS
Penn
They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me, and now my heart was completely iced.
I took her first kiss.
She took the only thing I loved.
I was poor.
She was rich.
The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast.
Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project.
Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much.
Yeah, baby girl, say it—I’m your foster brother.
There’s a price to pay for ruining the only good thing in my life, and she’s about to shell out some serious tears.
Daria Followhill thinks she is THE queen. I’m about to prove to her that she’s nothing but a spoiled princess.
Daria
Everyone loves a good old unapologetic punk.
But being a bitch? Oh, you get slammed for every snarky comment, cynical eye roll, and foot you put in your adversaries’ way.
The thing about stiletto heels is that they make a hell of a dent when you walk all over the people who try to hurt you.
In Penn Scully’s case, I pierced his heart until he bled out, then left it in a trash can on a bright summer day.
Four years ago, he asked me to save all my firsts for him.
Now he lives across the hall, and I want nothing more than to be his last everything.
His parting words when he gave me his heart were that nothing in this world is free.
Now? Now he is making me pay.
Okay, lemme get this out of my system first, but I'm pretty sure I've already made my point on my review on Defy but, MELODY??? WHY??? REALLY NOW?? UGHHHH!!!
I was so excited when I found out there will be a spin-off of the Sinners of Saint series and I not only a novella or a book but a freaking series for the second generation. Basically the children from Sinners of Saint and I was so freaking out I can't wait to read all of them. Guess that's the reason why I devoured the series in only four freaking days. Yes, FOUR.DAYS!
So this series starts with Jaime and Melody Followhill's *bratty* daughter Daria. Well, I already know she's bratty with how she acted during that scene in Scandalous where she destroyed Luna's seahorse doll Trent even pointed that she's becoming meaner. Anyway, so Daria met Penn when they were thirteen years old and they had their first kiss and after their short meeting, everything went spiral with Penn unknowingly betraying his twin Via just because of his stupid attraction with Daria, mind you, on their first meeting. Pfft!
I know I will not enjoy the whole book but I did my best and actually forced myself finishing it because it was the first book from the series and I had soooo much expectation. I even skipped some pages just to get over it and finish it already it was a torture reading it.
First of, I wanna say I was right when I said Jaime is actually the nicest of the HotHoles contrary to what Vicious said being Trent the nicest one. Lol. I really appreciated Jaime here, like damn, Daria is so lucky to have a Dad like him. As for Melody, *facepalm* why?? I was actually eager to give her a chance in this book because as I said for a thousand times already, I did not really like her in Defy. And boy oh Boy did I hated her more here. I mean, I was so curious why Daria hated her to the point of calling by her name and not "mom" and I couldn't even blame the girl. I mean, how oblivious could she be about her own daughter's feelings? I know she's not just being naive because Daria is her own freaking daughter she even let Via live in their own house. If I'm Daria I would also be furious. Good thing Jaime always gets through Daria's feelings.
On a lighter note, I really like this kind of story where the male lead is finally the one who's not well off and the female lead is the one who's popular for once and actually rich. That was actually one of the reasons why I got so excited reading this but it constantly crashed my expectations. I was so close to giving up reading this not until I get to Jaime and Melody's POVs. Oh and those glimpses from Knight and Vaughn made reading this bearable.
You don't even know the relief I felt when I was already on the epilogue. haha. I just wanna forget reading this.
Rating: ⭐⭐ (I just checked my goodreads account and I generously gave this 3 stars. Guess all those feeling came back and I hated it more. lol)
